Larger Than Life

“I’ve called them The Ones because they are human figures who are connected and support each other to become stronger themselves. We are all individuals, One, but we do not exist alone, so The Ones.”

Micky Hoogendijks serie sculpturen, getiteld "The Ones", die in 2020 begon, verkent het thema van menselijke verbinding. Deze bronzen beelden portretteren gestileerde figuren, zowel individueel als gegroepeerd, en symboliseren kracht en de onzichtbare banden tussen mensen. Hoogendijk beschrijft ze als belichamingen van onderlinge steun en veerkracht, waarbij ze benadrukt dat hoewel individuen onderscheiden zijn ("One"), ze kracht putten uit hun verbindingen ("The Ones").

De overgang van fotografie naar beeldhouwkunst markeerde een belangrijke artistieke evolutie voor Hoogendijk, gedreven door een verlangen naar een meer tastbare en diepgaande creatieve expressie. Haar sculpturen, geïnspireerd door eerdere fotografische werken, werden gemaakt tijdens de eenzaamheid van de Covid-19 lockdown, waar ze de ruimte en focus vond om zich te verdiepen in het beeldhouwen.

In nauwe samenwerking met de bronsgieterij Kemner in Cuijk, zag Hoogendijk toe op de transformatie van haar delicate ontwerpen tot robuuste bronzen sculpturen. Ondanks haar aanvankelijke gevoelens van kwetsbaarheid tijdens het intense gietproces, werd ze getroffen door hun nieuw gevonden kracht en stevigheid eenmaal afgekoeld. Deze tegenstelling - broosheid in vorm maar kracht in materiaal - symboliseert de delicate maar veerkrachtige aard van menselijke verbindingen, een centraal thema in haar artistieke verkenning.

Door "The Ones", vooral in haar grootschalige werken zoals "The Ones XXL", streeft Hoogendijk ernaar monumentale sculpturen te creëren die zowel ontzag als intimiteit oproepen, en die ontmoetingen en reflecties over menselijke verbondenheid aanmoedigen. Haar proces van het creëren van deze sculpturen wordt een diep persoonlijke en meeslepende ervaring, waarin ze haar toewijding weerspiegelt om de essentie van menselijke relaties te verkennen en uit te drukken via kunst.
