“Traveler” by Micky Hoogendijk is a poignant exploration of the infinite possibilities and boundless freedom that life offers, inspired by her mother Gine’s words, “The world is your oyster.” This photograph, created in 2015, features a bride wearing Hoogendijk’s old wedding dress and a white cap, gazing through a cloudy mass of glass. The coagulated form symbolizes an organic drop of water, constantly moving and changing, representing the ‘little ball’ of inspiration Hoogendijk often refers to—a space beside her head where her creative ideas and fantasies reside.

In “Traveler,” Hoogendijk captures the essence of embarking on an internal journey, navigating through her own fantasy world. This work reflects the artist’s belief that one can travel without physically moving, symbolizing the journeys taken within one’s mind and the limitless bounds of imagination. The photograph underscores the duality of strength and vulnerability, portraying the delicate balance of embracing one’s dreams while confronting reality.
