In Princess, Micky Hoogendijk channels the elegance and serenity of the Early Netherlandish painters, such as Hans Memling and Rogier van der Weyden. This photograph is part of the series The Nuns, which comprises five characterizations of the same woman.

Hoogendijk met the model, a waitress from Austin, whose porcelain-like skin and serene presence captivated her. This encounter evoked memories of Hoogendijk’s childhood, during which classical art played a significant role.

In this series, the woman revealed different facets of herself, with each encounter serving as a mirror for Hoogendijk.

The model’s hands and demeanor echo the grace of Memling’s portraits, bridging the gap between classical and modern aesthetics.

Princess embodies a sense of timelessness, where memories of historical art seamlessly merge with Hoogendijk’s distinctive contemporary style, making each work a personal and collective journey through art history.
