“The Nun” is a deeply symbolic work by Micky Hoogendijk, reflecting themes of grief, mourning, and spiritual introspection. Inspired by the archetype of the Virgin Mary and influenced by the principles of Carl Jung, this photograph presents a divine bride, enveloped in a white veil with a subtle halo, evoking religious and melancholic undertones. Hoogendijk’s connection to Jungian psychology, learned through her studies at the Eric Morris Actors Workshop, allowed her to tap into her subconscious, where she found the archetypes that drive her creativity. “The Nun” represents the solitude and silence needed for personal healing, merging Hoogendijk’s dream world with her lived experiences to create a space for profound emotional expression.
