In 2019, Micky Hoogendijk created The Art of Love, a series of twelve photographs and a short film exploring the theme of self-love and vulnerability.

“The state of love and bliss is not just found in others, but for her, in nature.”

Hoogendijk believes that true love for others begins with love for oneself, caring for yourself as you would for another. In this series, she presents herself as her own muse, placing self-acceptance and openness at the heart of the narrative.

In The Art of Love, Hoogendijk exposes herself both physically and emotionally, convinced that complete openness is essential to connect deeply with others. Inspired by the words of Marianne Williamson, quoted by Nelson Mandela, about embracing one’s inner light and potential, Hoogendijk seeks to reveal her true self without shame. The series captures the intimate bond between artist, subject, and viewer, generating a ‘magical energy’ that transcends the physical form of the work.

A collaboration with Dutch filmmaker and photographer Frits de Beer resulted in both photographs and a short film, shot along the beaches of the Netherlands and the Balearic Islands. The imagery shows Hoogendijk moving freely within nature, embodying love, strength, and vulnerability. Titles such as The Source, Baptism, and Free Fall poetically chart a journey of emotional depth and personal transformation.

The Art of Love challenges societal norms around nudity and vulnerability, presenting the naked body as a symbol of ultimate freedom and authentic self-expression. Hoogendijk’s work invites viewers to embrace their own vulnerability and discover strength through self-love, making this series a powerful testament to her artistic vision and emotional truth.
